Cottage to rent in Russell Northland Bay of Islands New Zealand

Clendon Lodge is a single story timber home on the water front of a tidal beach in New Zealand's beautiful Bay of Islands, famed for its game fishing, beauty and dolphins. The Lodge sleeps 5 (master bedroom has ensuite) and there is a separate annex with toilet and cold running water that sleeps six. The flat 11 acre property has a field used for occasional grazing, an olive grove and many fruit and nut trees. In addition one of the oldest houses in New Zealand (built 1840 by James Clendon) remains on the property.

You can walk to the rocks at low tide and fish for small fish. Wet shoes are needed for swimming from the property. Other swimming is within walking distance to Jills Bay, 20 minutes drive to East coast surf beach or 20 minutes to Long Beach, Russell.

Launch trips leave from Russell or nearby Paihia for the famous "Hole in the Rock" at Cape Brett at the entry to the Bay of Islands. Other boat trips include 'swim with the dolphins' or sailing. The historic Treaty House is at Waitangi just beyond Paihia. Kerikeri, famous for its citrus and kiwifruit is nearby. You can take a coach trip or drive to Cape Reinga at the tip of New Zeland and see two oceans meeting.

Summer temperatures (December to March) usually range between 22 and 28 degrees. Winter temperatures are 16 to 22 degrees.

The property is ideally suited to those who want to have a base for sight seeing or just relaxing and taking time out. It is about 17 kilometres from Russell which is a 15 to 20 minute drive through farmland, bush and past oyster farms.
