Directly opposite the house is a reserve with a walkway to a lookout with beautiful views of Ohope, Whale Island and White Island. Follow the track down through native bush to Ohiwa Harbour and wander back along the beach, or take a walk at night to the glow-worms grotto - a must see during your stay. Bring your kayak and explore the nearby estuary or the Ohiwa harbour and see if you can catch a flounder or two to cook on the BBQ. A bird sanctuary is located at one end of the beach. Enjoy regular sightings of Bittern, the endangered NZ Dotterel, Oyster Catchers, and from the house you will see Native Wood Pigeons, Tui, Bellbirds, Kingfishers, Quail and Pheasants.
