Opposite the lighthouse is the Fortress of Louisbourg, with its cannons pointed across the harbour. You can hear the boom across the harbour every day at 4:45 as the cannons go off. Once a week, on Thursday evenings in July and August is Murder Mystery Night at the Fortress. For information and tickets go to http:///murdermystery.html Enjoy Crabfest the 1st weekend in August. The last week of August celebrate the King's birthday with a spectacular fireworks display over the harbour. For those who love diving adventures there are plenty. There are wrecks of French men-of-war from the siege of 1758 lying on the harbour bottom. Louisbourg Harbour is a protected area but you may visit with a guide . There are many walking trails, including Simon's Point, a wonderful walk through the woods that takes you to a beautiful view of the Atlantic ocean. Grab a rod and fish for mackerel off the wharf. After you barbecue your supper, sit on the deck and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Also a small sand area for the kids to beachcomb for treasure .
